Spirits in the Material World
Spirits in The Material World is Megon McDonough's 12th solo album. She covers pop standards beautifully as well as including her original song "Beatle Love" which won Christine Lavin's picks for "Best Pop Song of the Year." If you're looking for a very cool disc that will satisfy all your musical tastes, this CD is a must.
In The Megan Manner
This is my favorite LP of the four I recorded for Wooden Nickel/RCA. These songs reflect my life from the time I was 11 and my father and sister passed away within 3 months of each other, till the time I was 17 and recorded this record. The love songs here are written from my young heart and first love.
This was our "Sophomore effort" as they say in the record business. Not as personal as my first record, but I learned so much working on this. And it gave me a chance to co-write with my dear friend/producer Barry Fasman. I was also very touched by John Denver's quote:
This record was fun to make because I got to meet more songwriters and take more "pop" risk's. The cover was shot in a field in Malibu, CA. by Gordon__________, and was a favorite of ours.
I was a big Maxfield Parish fan by this time, and still very much in love with California life. These songs are a continuation of that time.
If Only I Could Reach You
In the late 70's I worked with a terrific group playing college campuses around the country, as well as clubs in Chicago. That's when I was kissed by Frank Sinatra and wished: "Good luck, baby" to which I replied, You too". This is a record of our music from that time, country pop.
With the great good fortune to help found and tour with "The Four Bitchin' Babes" in 1989, my husband Greg and I starting a little record company. (He's a great executive producer!) These are songs of mine and some favorites from songwriter greats, like Michael Smith.
Blue Star Highway
After recording "Danny Boy" with Ed Tossing, the director of the Made for TV movie "Star" was so impressed, he and the producers included my vocal in the movie! This CD features the incomparable Steve Rashid (playing and producing), Don Stiernberg, Jim Cox, and Kevin Connelly; heavenly players on any highway.
My One And Only Love
This CD was a dream come true. I recorded this classic song with jazz bassist Jim Cox. Well one thing led to another and thanks to my dear friend Chris Lavin, Shanachie took her advice and released a whole CD of me singing jazz/torch songs! I love this record but can't be responsible for what can happen when you put it on...
Day by Day
These songs come from a very healing time in my life. In an effort to take one more "geographical cure" I moved back to the Mighty Midwest and got my life back on track. My dear friend Thom Bishop wrote "Heavy the Coat" and with Ed Tossing, "Wake Up and Dream" (the song I sang on Star Search!)
4+1 Music Inspired by The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
I first heard about the book "The Four Agreements" by don Miguel Ruiz, on Oprah. I had a chance to play a couple songs before don Miguel spoke here in Chicago. What a thrill! I hope the music inspires you and that you enjoy don Miguel's wonderful book.
The Patsy Project: w/Don Stiernberg:
In 1998 I performed in Northlight Theatre's production of "AlwaysPatsy Cline" I came away from that gig a bionic voice and a profound respect for her. This record combines 2 of my loves, jazz and Patsy Cline. I had a great time working with the Amazing Don Stiernberg and Steve Rashid again.
